Since 1897, Calvert School, an independent lower and middle school, has been providing an excellent education for children in the Baltimore area. Calvert School is currently seeking a Director of Finance to begin July 2017. The Director will be a member of the School’s Administration team and will serve on Board Committees and other cross-departmental committees, as needed. The Director will oversee the Finance Department, which consists of a Controller, General Accountant, and Administrative Assistant. The Director will also oversee the facilities department and the dining services contract.
The Director will be responsible for the following:
Oversee the management of the School’s financial and accounting activities including relations with outside financial institutions for banking, loans, and investments.
Provide oversight of the School’s endowment, investment policies, and debt management.
Prepare annual financial statements and other external reporting requirements such as tax returns, loan covenants, charitable registrations, etc.
Develop and present the School’s annual and long-range budget to the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees. This includes a multi-year financial modeling process.
Supervise the accounting staff and preparing and monitoring the budget, tuition billing and collections, purchasing and accounts payable, maintenance of accounting systems, financial aid calculations and awards, and cash management and bank reconciliations.
Work with outside auditors to conduct the annual audit and oversee all financial procedures and controls in place, making improvements when needed.
Supervise the Director of Facilities and the facilities team and oversee the coordination of all custodial and grounds operations to maintain the campus. Oversee building renovations and capital expenditures.
Oversee the dining services contract and manage all activities associated with food services provided to students, employees, and events held on campus.
Qualifications of the ideal candidate include the following:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university in Accounting or Finance. CPA is preferred.
A minimum of seven years of accounting and management experience.
Experience working on leadership teams and with Board of Trustees.
Extensive knowledge of not-for-profit accounting practices.
A proactive and strategically oriented leader who can guide the School in the achievement of its currents financial goals and in the continuous process of developing new goals.
Must have a strong work ethic, be dependable, and have strong communication skills.
Must have the ability to work with independence in dealing with the diverse elements of the academic environment.
