Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies (SPCS) is the home of academic programs, both residential and online, that advance the education of academically talented, intellectually curious, pre-college students, worldwide.

The Assistant Director of Business Operations administers the operational and financial components of the Summer Institutes and other related pre-collegiate programs. This position supervises the administrative and student-support operations team, which responds to student, parent and contingent staff residential needs, and is a point of escalation for customer service issues. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies Programs and collaborates closely with other Assistant and Associate Directors for the Summer Institutes and other related programs to ensure smooth collaboration between core program constituencies. Using financial analysis and evaluation of business practices, this position oversees the operating budget, develops efficient administrative operations, supports financial planning, and collaborates on operational decision making for a group of programs that host over 1,800 high school students on campus each summer and year-round programs for all school age students, with a budget of over $10M.
The ideal candidate is mission-driven and solutions-oriented, has strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and past experience working in both financial administration and a customer service environment. They also have excellent analytical and problem solving skills, good judgment, integrity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and creativity as well as a positive attitude, the ability to collaborate and consult, and a good sense of humor.
Independently implement, administer and evaluate day-to-day activities of the unit, function or program. Act as key contact. Specifically, oversee collaboration with vendors, other Stanford offices, and contingent summer staff.
Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function. Lead process improvement, resolve complex issues.
Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for program or function. Specifically, recommend improvements to operations and customer service functions, program documentation, and routine procedures essential to program functions.
Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school. May also represent the program or function to external constituencies.
Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, and/or conferences. Take lead role in development of budgets or oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures. Specifically, responsible for oversight of SPCS budgets, budget forecasts, approval of financial transactions, financial training of staff, billing and refunds.
Directs staff to perform various tasks and assignments. Specifically, supervise operations team, delegate customer service, logistics, and financial tasks to operations team; assure completion of tasks.

Education & Experience:
Bachelors degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Desirable: experience with Stanford financial systems. Strongly preferred: 5-7 years of relevant experience.
