Essential Functions: JOB PURPOSEOversees the fiscal and business related operations and activities of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Plans, develops and administers annual operating budget; reviews and manages allocations to avoid deficits, optimize use of available funds and meet changing financial needs and requirements; directly oversees specifically assigned programs, systems, funds and controls and approves expenditures at the Dean/Director level.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProvide guidance, assistance and expertise and serve as liaison to internal and external contacts to promote operational consistency and efficiency. Conduct training sessions; interpret policy and procedures; serve on committees and boards and maintaining professional relationships required to remain current with trends and developments in Accounting, Finance and related pertinent fields. Respond to questions and requests for assistance; resolve policy disputes and identify the need for and facilitate the development and implementation of exceptions to existing policy. Direct financial reporting requirements and activities to ensure current and accurate information is provided to internal administrators as well as outside agencies. Conduct needs assessment; develop and enhance computerized accounting and reporting systems; identify and implement requisite changes in existing business activities, policy and procedure and remain current with internal and external, guidelines and regulations in order to meet reporting requirements. Ensure systems, procedures and policies are compatible with those of other department, University and external agency systems and requirements.Conduct and provide analysis, studies and reports as requested by departments, University administration and external agencies. Identify requestor's needs, develop responsive methodologies and coordinate the collection, analysis and reporting of results. Respond to inquiries, provide explanations and interpret, modify or revise results as necessary to assure an understanding of pertinent issues and conclusions.Direct personnel and operational activities. Hire, evaluate, develop and discipline assigned professional and support personnel; develop and oversee the implementation of improved methods, policy and procedures and assign workflow as required to meet demand and improve efficiency.Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: EDUCATIONBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and/ or experience. Master's Degree preferred.EXPERIENCEExtensive experience in a higher-level financial reporting/accounting/finance position, preferably in an academic setting. Extensive project management experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESTECHNICAL KNOWLEDGEExtensive knowledge of accounting or finance practices and principals.BUSINESS ACUMENExtensive knowledge of and experience with University organizations, practices, programs and computing systems. Extensive knowledge of business operations and polices of external agencies and university affiliates.COMMUNICATION SKILLSExcellent oral and /or written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others.PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLSStrong analytic and problem resolution abilities. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
