About The Ellis School
The Ellis School, founded in 1916, prepares, empowers, and inspires each and every girl age 3 to grade 12 through an excellent education in an all-girls environment. Ellis is Pittsburgh’s only independent school for girls. The single-gender environment maximizes girls’ intellectual, physical, emotional, and social growth. Girls are empowered to take risks, work collabora...tively, ask questions, and pursue their dreams. Our vision is to be a leading school for girls, providing an excellent education for every student and continuing to innovate so each girl thrives in school and excels in life. With small class sizes averaging just 14 students, the Ellis experience is personal and fulfilling. The School’s faculty members are known for their leadership and innovation. The School recently launched a Learning Innovation Institute to pilot, create, and share innovative practices that improve learning outcomes for girls and young women and teaching outcomes for their teachers. Diversity is a core community value: 37% of students--including 5% who are international students--and 9% of faculty are people of color, and 36% of students receive need-based financial aid awards and scholarships.
