Job Requisition Number: 25050. The ASUC Student Union is an auxiliary department within the Division of Student Affairs that operates in partnership with the Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC.) The department provides financial and business support to the ASUC Student Government and operate commercial services for the campus, as well as direct student service programs. The ASUC Student Union serves all students and seeks to create an inclusive campus community, thereby enhancing the student experience at UC Berkeley. To this end, the ASUC SU provides a wide array of quality services and programs that foster experiential learning opportunities for our students. Our LEAD Center provides student group advising services, leadership opportunities, and student development programs. These services and programs are funded through income from student fees, retail operations, vending, food service, and a variety of self-operated units such as the Art Studio and Events Services.
The Director of Business and Finance is responsible for the planning and management of the budget for a large, complex cluster of units within the ASUC SU (over $11 million and 40 FTE). This includes detailed oversight for the operating budgets of the ASUC Student Union, and the ASUC and Graduate Assembly, a separate 501(c)3. The Director develops and manages the annual budget, and oversees the monthly financial review process. The position plays a key role in managing the financial performance of all units, overseeing accounting and financial reporting. The Director of Business and Finance recommends, interprets, advises, and executes all policies pertaining to overall business, financial, and budgeting functions of the ASUC SU. The position analyzes business needs and planning objectives, and makes strategic, long-term recommendations regarding budget initiatives, fiscal performance, allocation priorities, and assessments.
The position will serve as a high-level analyst and manager. The Director of Business and Finance is the chief budget and financial officer for ASUC SU, and provides direct and indirect assistance to the appropriate administrative officers and staff within the unit on budgetary policies, plans, and procedures. The Director plays a key role in development of managerial strategies for improving the budget process and strengthening the budget review for the ASUC SU. The position will be an active participant in identifying system needs, operational burdens, fiscal strengths/weaknesses, and external opportunities and threats to ASUC SU.
The Director is responsible for all matters of fiscal compliance for the Student Union and the ASUC and GA, including compliance with the ASUC Constitution and By-Laws, campus and system wide policies, state and federal regulations. The Director ensures the commercial revenue activities of the Student Union remain in accordance with any commercial vendor activity agreements.FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS ACUMEN SKILLS: •Advanced to expert knowledge, and demonstrated professional experience, with of financial policies, practices, and systems, related to accounting, budgeting, reporting techniques, and regulatory compliance, requirements and human resource planning. •Demonstrated strong experience in Excel and must also demonstrate a strong proficiency with General Ledger, AR, and financial reporting systems. •Has extensive professional experience and proficiency with business industry standards and regulations, and systems.. •Has extensive professional experience working with spreadsheets, databases, and a variety of accounting and bookkeeping software. •Ability to collaboratively develop and implement procedures, methods, and operations required for efficient service operations. •Knowledge of contract development with service providers/vendors, negotiations, and execution
LEADERSHIP SKILLS •Experience assisting in designing, implementing, and facilitating training and developmental workshops , leadership, customer service, and personal development workshops, and programs for full-time staff, student staff, interns, and graduate assistants. •Experience implementing goals and action plans for areas of responsibility that support organization’s mission and the general goals established by the Executive Director. •Ability to conduct complex business analysis and produce written reports and or presentation with recommendations. •Strong critical thinking abilities, and quantitative and analytical skills. •Ability to work in a dynamic (multiple stakeholders) environment and engage collaboratively in problem solving methods. •Ability to demonstrate creativity and flexibility in working on various projects with a variety of constituent groups.

EDUCATION: •An advanced degree in a business/finance-related area and/or equivalent business experience/training.
