Key Responsibilities: An experienced Vice President of Finance & Administration will oversee financial and administrative operations reporting to the President. The VP of Finance & Administration is responsible for financial operations, human resources, information technology (indirectly), purchasing, contract management, retirement and investment oversight, and other operations for the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA and its affiliated organizations. The VP of Finance & Administration will work closely with the President, the Board of Directors, and Committees of the Board on budgets and revenue estimates; report regularly to the President on financial performance; supervise accounting and administrative staff; manage relationships with outside counsel, financial advisors, banks, contractors and audit firms. The VP of Finance & Administration will direct and oversee financial operations (e.g. day-to-day and month-end accounting, A/P, A/R, payroll, fixed asset and general ledger through active management of an accounting team) for a complex group of nonprofits with multiple funding sources, including organizations in California and one in Hawaii. The VP of Finance & Administration must have experience working in an inclusive and diverse, fast paced office environment in addition to possessing an affinity for issues involving animal welfare. Qualifications: The Vice President of Finance & Administration will be an experienced leader with a degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics from an accredited university; a CPA or an advanced degree is desirable. The successful candidate must have a minimum of 7 years of broad finance experience including at least 5 years in financial leadership positions in a medium to large not-for-profit organization or foundation. The candidate must: - Demonstrate experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to the President, senior staff, and Boards of Directors.
- Have experience working with independent audit firms.
- Possess an intimate knowledge of GAAP and foundation and nonprofit accounting practices and standards.
- Understand government contracting and have prior experience managing complex revenue streams.
- Have documented experience working with financial systems and managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a nonprofit with multiple funding sources, including familiarity with endowments, restricted gifts and donor advised funds.
- Be familiar with oversight of retirement investments, social responsible investing.
Additional Qualifications: - Solid experience supervising management level staff and working collaboratively in a senior team environment.
- Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.
- Experience working with investment managers as well as Budget and Finance Committees.
- Experience with 403(b) plans and the IRS requirements.
- Experience managing implementation of new systems and software.
- Experience with finance and accounting software packages.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, interpersonal skills and good judgment.
- Self-starter who demonstrates the highest standards of integrity.
- Excellent analytic and abstract reasoning, problem-solving and organizational skills.
