The Finance Partner II supports the Senior Finance Partner in providing strategic financial leadership and financial stewardship for multiple Business Units of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This role supports a wide array of financial activities in a complex academic healthcare environment including but not limited to these financial management functions for Business Units:
Financial and Strategic Business Plan development, Capital Budgeting
Service Line and Cost Accounting oversight
Finance Policy and Procedure Compliance, Performance Improvement and Learning
This role works with all areas of Corporate Finance (Accounting, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Financial Strategy, Revenue Cycle and Supply Chain) and is intended to be a support to the Senior Finance Partner in the delivery of services to each Business Unit Vice President. The Finance Partner reports to the Senior Finance Partner.
Supports Operating Budget / Performance Management / Variance Reporting Processes for multiple Business Units
Provides proactive financial advice for Business Unit Leadership and their teams using business intelligence, data and advanced analytic tools.
Provides analysis to support creation of the Base Budget assumptions for volume, gross revenue and expense inflation rates, including the integration of organization objectives for cost savings and new program initiatives; provide guidance to Business Unit leadership in identifying and understanding key volume and related variance drivers including identifying areas of risk.
Supports Business Unit leadership in the completion of the annual budget cycle and achievement of operating targets
Actively participates in month end financial close: Assist departments and Corporate Accounting to estimate appropriate accruals; Prepares detailed analysis of operational and financial data, trend analysist, and monitoring of key financial metrics including root causes analysis; summarizes and shares findings and detailed explanations with the Senior Finance Partner for review with CHOP Executive leaders, their teams and Finance Department colleagues
Engages leaders and provides guidance in development and ongoing monitoring of remediation and corrective action plans with for all material variances to budget.
Supports analytics for Labor and Non Labor Benchmarking activities.
Supports Business Unit Leadership in cost management initiatives.
Attends a wide range of client-based meetings for exposure to organization.
Supports Corporate Finance training to Business Units for operating budget, capital budget, variance reporting, service line reporting and other finance tools, systems and applications.
Financial and Strategic Business Plan development and Capital Budgeting
Coordinates financial inputs to create efficient and effective financial plans, forecasts, “what if scenarios” and analysis for Business Unit strategic objectives; applies analytical thinking to evaluate financial impact of business decisions.
Participates in and provides insight required for the retrospective financial review of approved business plans
Supports Business Unit VPs with Capital Budget Request process and completion of Business Cases to support requests
Coordinates and updates capital spending projections by Business Units
Prepares updates needed for refreshes to the Enterprise 7 Year Plan
Supports Business Unit leadership and their teams using financial data and advanced Analytic tools
Service Line Reporting and Cost Accounting
Supports the Financial Planning and Financial Analytics Teams to improve and promote accurate Cost Accounting methodologies for RVU development, indirect expense allocations and other cost accounting drivers
Supports and participates in promotion of Business Unit Service Line reporting to inform service line profitability, improve costing processes, inform business plans and promote improved decision making for Operational Leaders
Contributes Business Unit knowledge and financial expertise to the overall cost accounting methodology applied to the Business Units assigned to the Senior Finance Partner
Participates in logic development, visual views and enhances financial tools and models, including predictive, to enable an Enterprise wide financial reporting infrastructure

Guides Business Unit leaders in adoption and understanding of finance policies, guidelines, requirements, and standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with corporate finance policies and generally accepted accounting principles
Supports Business Unit adoption and best practice use of all financial and supply chain applications and tools
Provides guidance and participates in Enterprise and Business Unit performance improvement initiatives that result in an improvement in Business Unit operational and financial performance
Provides insight and participates in Finance department improvement projects and initiatives, including information systems and analytical tools/models, design, set up, implementation and stabilization; acts in a leading or contributing role
Provides a coordinating role when necessary between Managers/Directors and Corporate Finance functions including Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Supply Chain, and Revenue Cycle teams to support Business Unit Leadership with access to appropriate resources and knowledge experts
Participates in or leads Special Projects and Committees as assigned to support Finance or Operational initiatives;
Educates other staff inside and outside of the department on financial concepts and applications, and contributes to the development of financial management training materials.
Develops and maintains business partner relationships across the CHOP Enterprise
Responds to customers in a timely fashion
Shares expertise and experience to supports stakeholders on effective financial management processes
Supports the delivery of financial, operational and strategic insights across business units
Facilitates an openly communicative environment to promote the generation of creative thinking and commitment to business process improvement
At least seven (7) years of experience
Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree
Preferred Licenses/certificates/registrations: CPA or CMA
Additional Technical Requirements
ERP Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Ledger and Supply Chain modules, Workforce Analytics, EPIC, Microsoft products, Business Objects, Allscripts or other Budget and FDS platforms, Qlikview applications.
Experience with accounting concepts, variable and rolling budget processes, labor analytics, service line profitability, financial and forecasting concepts
Knowledge of integrated and automated financial systems
Demonstrate strong communication skills, able to prioritize work, and take initiative when necessary
Demonstrates ability to diagnose complex business finance issues and to recommend areas for process improvement or innovation
Exhibits ability to work on concurrent initiatives and activities with a reasonable degree of autonomy.
