Reporting to the Dean of the School of Public Health, the Director of Finance & Administration serves as the senior administrator responsible for strategic financial planning and oversight of financial management, administration of academic programs, facilities planning/operations, research operations and human resources management. The Director works closely with the Dean to manage and strategically plan for new initiatives, future directions and long-term growth of the School of Public Health. This position works closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs on academic issues that have a financial impact on the School of Public Health, including academic program administration, masterâ™s student enrollments, masters and doctoral student finances and faculty teaching assignments. This position also works with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, the Associate Dean for Research and the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion on financial and operational issues. The Director advises senior leaders in the School of Public Health (Department chairs, Center directors) on operational efficiency and strategies to achieve their goals.
MBA or Masterâ™s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10 + years of progressively responsible financial and operational management experience at a complex institution of higher education or the equivalent, with comprehensive experience in the operation and financing of academic programs and large research programs.
Management experience required including demonstrated experience building strong teams.
Proven ability to develop and implement strategies, plans and budgets in a complex, fast changing environment.
Demonstrated leadership and management of a diverse operation.
Ability to work across organizational units on campus.
High professional standards with the ability to effectively manage competing requirements.
Demonstrated success with, and knowledge and understanding of, finance and budgeting, analysis and reporting and information technology programs in support of a high performing organization.
Demonstrated business acumen, strong critical thinking and analytical skills, and the ability to create and utilize clearly articulated, metric-based, analytical solutions to complex problems.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and the ability to collaborate with senior administration and key stakeholders across the SPH with confidence and diplomacy.
Possess a high degree of personal integrity and a commitment to the values and principles essential to creating an environment of collegiality, civility, and responsible stewardship
