The Vice Chair of Finance and Administration is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and input on all fiscal and administrative affairs related to the education, research and clinical missions within the Department of Family Medicine including the Family Medicine Residency, Medical Student Education, Indiana AHEC Network and the Bowen Center for Health Workforce Research and Policy.
Must lead, initiate, develop, recommend and implement short and long-term departmental goals and initiatives in the areas of research, education, human resources, finance, gift development and clinical/practice plan operations. Provide fiscal, policy and internal control, financial analysis and planning, and risk management for all areas within the Department of Family Medicine.
Serve as a member of the CORE Executive Leadership Team while providing administrative oversight within the department and management of all financial affairs; oversee Human Resource management, Payroll functions, procurement/purchasing including contracts, research administration and grants including grant budget preparation and award management; oversee information technology systems and services.
Serve as departmental liaison between Family Medicine and IU Health, IU Health Physicians, Eskenazi Medical Group and other external entities. Manage the distribution of clinical dollars to the research and education missions of the department.
Supervise professional staff. Oversee supervision, hiring and performance of all non-faculty departmental staff. Participate in interviewing and hiring decision of Department of Family Medicine faculty.
Prepare the department's annual budget, develop and implement policies and process improvement initiatives throughout Family Medicine and represent the department in university, local and national professional organizations. Serve as the departmental HIPAA Liaison.
REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus 5 years of related experience including managerial experience; OR Bachelor's Degree plus 8 years of experience in a related field including managerial experience. Must have experience in finance, accounting or financial management, and extensive management/supervisory experience.
Demonstrated leadership, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, knowledge of business and management principles involving strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource management, education and research operations. Ability to think critically, analyze business situations and relationship, and independently make decisions based on facts and findings. Ability to build professional relationships, communicate effectively with a variety of constituents and collaborate with individuals and groups across multiple organizations. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Knowledge of research requirements, higher education and healthcare management.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Must be able to travel to multiple locations on campus and off campus. Must attend local, state, and national conferences.
