Wake Forest University seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its new Vice President for Finance (VP for Finance or VP). This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with outstanding leadership abilities and strong managerial, technical, and communication skills to help shape the future of one of the nation's finest universities.
Located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Wake Forest University is currently ranked #27 among national universities by U.S. News and World Report. The University enrolls 7,968 students (4,955 undergraduate students and 3,013 graduate and professional students). In addition to the Undergraduate College, Wake Forest is comprised of thriving Schools of Business, Divinity, Law, Medicine, and a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The main Reynolda campus houses most constituent schools and programs; the School of Medicine is co-located at the University's medical center four miles away and at a downtown campus, which features both medical education and undergraduate programs in biomedical sciences and engineering. Wake Forest values its position as the nation's premier “collegiate university,” integrating an undergraduate liberal arts tradition with the vitality of a research university.
The VP for Finance reports to the Executive Vice President (EVP) of the University and has oversight of all matters pertaining to the management and operation of the business and finance areas of the University including: accounting, student financial services, accounts receivable, accounts payable, campus financial services, financial information systems, procurement, risk services, fiscal planning, financial statement preparation, contract negotiations, payroll, treasury services and investments. The VP will oversee and strengthen the University's financial units in order to execute the University's strategic plan, support innovation, and fulfill the mission of the University. This individual will also clearly communicate financial goals and opportunities to the University community.
The VP will join Wake Forest University at a critical time as the University changes administrative systems, transitioning from Banner to Workday, and prepares for a $100 million bond issuance. This candidate must be a highly accomplished financial executive and an effective leader with strong technical knowledge who can further develop structure and stability for the fiscal and administrative processes. Ideally, the incoming VP will also have experience working closely with other administrative functions such as human resources, information technology, and campus services. The individual must be an excellent communicator and natural collaborator committed to the highest ethical and professional standards, with demonstrated ability to work collegially in a diverse academic community. The VP will have keen strategic and operational planning skills, strong financial acumen, superb staff and project management skills, and a natural bias towards action and doing. A Bachelor's degree is required and an advanced degree in business, finance, management, or other relevant field, or CPA license is preferred. Experience in a higher education environment of similar size and complexity is highly desirable.
