Reporting to the Associate Dean and Director of Budgets and Finance, the Assistant Director of Budgets and Finance will be responsible for the daily managerial oversight of College unit budgets and finances. This includes the critical role of managing the annual budget process at the unit level, quarterly budget meetings, quarterly reports process and year-end close process. The Assistant Director of Budgets and Finance will conduct financial and budgetary analysis for 27 constituent departments. This involves collaborating with department administrators, colleagues in A&F and FAS Finance, advises and assists constituent departments in a variety of financial areas, including developing annual budgets, identifying funding sources to fund departmental budgets that respect the first dollar principle, planning strategically to optimize funding, supporting the year end closing, supporting the use of the FAS financial systems, performing ad hoc financial analyses, and troubleshooting financial questions and or issues. Performs monthly reviews of budgets to monitor spending and works with department administrators to prevent over-expenditures. Makes recommendations to senior management regarding budget requests and program changes with financial implications. Evaluates quarterly budget-to-actual and year-over-year performance for various departments, and provide analytic summaries to the Associate Dean and Director of Budgets and Finance, Dean for Administration & Finance and other members of School leadership.
Other responsibilities include developing financial models and analyses to support the College's financial operations, College-wide reporting and strategic planning efforts, providing financial analysis and budget support both to the senior financial leadership of the College and to highly visible constituent departments.
The Assistant Director of Budgets and Finance leads the monthly College Administrator Meeting along with developing financial trainings and workshops. Further, you will lead the College-wide review of internal financial policies and procedures, and ensure implementation of changes and improvements. The Assistant Director of Budgets and Finance will supervise the Financial Administrator regarding their College unit responsibilities.
Plus other special additional assignments by the Associate Dean and Director of Budgets & Finance.
The College Office of Administration and Finance is comprised of 5 staff: Dean for Administration and Finance, Associate Dean and Director of Budgets & Finance, Assistant Director of Budgets and Finance, Financial Administrator II and one Executive Assistant & Finance Coordinator.

Bachelor's degree in Finance or related area of study.
7+ years of relevant work experience in financial analysis, budget and forecast development, and financial planning.
MPA, CPA or MBA a plus.
Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives, both collaboratively and independently. Excellent written and verbal communications and presentation skills required. Collaborative, creative problem-solver, excellent team player with demonstrated leadership potential. Knowledge of and experience with a complex university culture and related expectations and norms and with working across teams and units with faculty and staff throughout organization. Strong customer service ethic. Experience with and ability to maintain highly confidential information.
Demonstrated advanced experience in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and charting. Oracle or other databases.
Demonstrated financial skills in financing models, budgeting and analysis.
Experience with Harvard Financial Systems a plus.
