Posting Summary: The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia, with a $45 million annual budget, seeks a Senior Finance Generalist to provide high level fiscal management support to the Director of Finance and to supervise the accounting staff. Incumbent is responsible for coordinating and managing financial operations related to payroll funding sources, gifts, grants, endowments, state funds, purchasing, resident funding, and annual budgeting processes. Position has signatory authority for both UVA and University Physician's Group (UPG), and is responsible for financial compliance, including internal controls. Incumbent works closely with faculty, staff, residents, and other departments and university units to address and resolve complex financial issues independently.
Qualified applicants must have a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and at least five years of high level fiscal administration experience. Applicants must be detail and team-oriented with a strong commitment to results that enhance departmental excellence. Good judgement and the ability to provide in-depth financial analysis are essential. Ability to effectively supervise, work productively with other departments, and multi-task are a must. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent analytical ability. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and University accounting practices and processes. Knowledge of state, federal, UVa, and UPG financial policies and regulations. Some knowledge of pre and post award grants management. Knowledge of Clarity budgeting program.

Preferred Computer Applications: Advanced Microsoft Excel and Access, familiarity with Clarity. Experience with Oracle, LD, and General Ledger.
