The Agricultural Sciences and Marine Sciences Business Center (AMBC) is seeking a Finance and Accounting Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Business Center Manager.
The Finance and Accounting Manager (FAM) is a working manager responsible for supervising Business Center (BC) financial and accounting functions in the Agricultural Sciences and Marine Sciences Business Center (AMBC). This center serves all units of the College, which includes academic units, centers, and 15 agricultural experiment stations located around the state of Oregon. This position also supports units located at the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC), and the Marine Studies Initiative (MSI). The HMSC units include the Coastal Marine Experiment Station (COMES), Cooperative Institute for Marine Resources Studies (CIMRS), the Hatfield Marine Science Center, and the Marine Mammal Institute (MMI). The FAM assists the Business Center Manager (BCM) in serving as consultant to unit administrators and management and provides guidance and advice in financial and accounting functions, practices, processes and staffing in order to provide timely and effective services to the units and administrators served. The FAM is responsible for providing supervision and guidance to the financial, accounting, and purchasing staff in the Business Center. In addition, the FAM is a working manager who serves as a fiscal consultant/accountant to Project Leaders and Unit Heads for one of the largest units in the college.
The FAM manages the college, HMSC and unit financial and accounting issues involving diverse interests, multiple stakeholders, conflicting practices, a range of possible solutions or other elements that contribute to complexity. The FAM applies a broad knowledge of financial and accounting principles and policies and collaborates with the management and staff of College of Agricultural Sciences, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Business Affairs, Budget Office, Research Office, Procurement and Contracts, and with other BCs and FAMs to resolve issues, complete responsibilities, and implement policies, procedures, and programs. The FAM works together with the AMBC management team to plan and participate in program and policy development and implementation at the college, HMSC, and unit level.
The FAM meets with college, HMSC and unit personnel to develop professional relationships and provide education, training, and assistance as needed.
The FAM’s decisions can have a broad impact on the units served.
Positions in this job profile manage the day-to-day operations of finance and accounting functions within a business center. They provide ideas and subject matter expertise while ensuring effective, efficient workflow and adherence to policy and standards. They may contribute to the development of the budget and are accountable for managing the budget and activities of staff.
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a closely related field and five years of professional level financial/accounting experience. A combination of related experience and educational background may be substituted for this credential.
Two or more years of relevant supervisory experience.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Excellent computer skills in MS Office applications, database management and enterprise computing systems.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions.
