The Finance & Executive Assistant works closely with the Finance Manager to support the financial operations of the Genomics Institute. This position interacts with units internal and external to the Genomics Institute - including Institute grant administrators, program managers, and principal investigators; and with UCSC financial office, procurement department and divisional business office - to help financial operations run smoothly and within policy. The Finance & Executive Assistant also works closely with the Executive Assistant to the Scientific Director on his travel arrangements and reimbursements. This position is part of a collegial administrative team dedicated to providing accurate, insightful, analytical, and timely administrative leadership, support, and oversight to enable scientific and technical advancements. The administrative team values organizational efficiency and effectiveness, fiscal stewardship, customer service, and continuous improvement. The selected candidate should be excited to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment within an institution of higher education in beautiful Santa Cruz, California.

This Genomics Institute administrative office supports the scientific and educational efforts of the UC Santa Cruz Genomics Institute, the Center for Biomolecular Science & Engineering (CBSE), the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3), and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Together, these entities include approximately 130 staff, postdocs, and students involved in projects supported by funds from the federal and state governments, research foundations, and private gifts. The Genomics Institute is located on the UC Santa Cruz campus.
Substantial related financial and administrative experience, including knowledge of office procedures and standard office equipment.
Excellent mathematical skills sufficient to calculate reimbursements, reconcile accounts and comprehend financial reports.
Ability to communicate issues clearly, both orally and in writing; able to give and receive clear, concise information.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy.
Familiarity with online financial information systems and experience with databases, spreadsheet applications and word processing.
