The Chief of Staff serves as a senior advisor to and designee for the UCSD Health System Chief Financial Officer (CFO), leading key initiatives in support of the finance department's operational and strategic priorities, ensuring successful implementation, and resolving problems in a pre-emptive fashion.
This position handles sensitive issues on behalf of the CFO, as well as emergent priority issues on a day-to-day basis. Responsibilities of the Chief of Staff may span the enterprise and require constructive relationships with all Health Sciences leadership, faculty, UCSD partners and outside agencies.
This is a senior level position in that requires a proven understanding of the health care finance and accounting functions, research and clinical practice. The Chief of Staff will be expected to successfully interact, negotiate and build UCSD Health Sciences relationships, programs and partnerships within UCSD Health Sciences. Tested and proven experience with health system financial administration, business planning and program execution, finance and accounting operations is required.
A Master's Degree in business, health administration or related field.
At least seven (7) years of senior level experience in the areas of finance and accounting in academic medicine, business and strategic planning, organizational development/reorganization, productivity improvement and cost management.
Solid business acumen and analytical skills, including an understanding of academic medicine, demonstrated experience developing and implementing operating plans, analyzing financial and quality data.
Ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions with business plans.
