Epic Care is seeking a Director of Finance to join our multi-specialty practice with operations across the East Bay area of Northern California. The Director of Finance who serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, directs the management of Epic Care’s Finance, Accounting and Financial Analytics operations as guided by Executive Management and published Deliverables, Policies and Procedures as well as GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) to ensure effective finance activities, including precise accounting, adherence to budget, financial reporting and analysis and cross-departmental communication, to ensure maximum overall practice efficiency, cost effective operations and overall profitability. Creates, performs and interprets financial and analytic reporting as required by the Deliverables system, to provide financial measurements and analysis of all elements of the organization ranging from revenue, costs, margins, contribution to Fixed overheads, etc. for Executive Management. Utilizes and suggests new metric-based measures for use in the development of business and operational planning and supporting execution of the growth and M & A strategies. Responsible for creating Budget and managing all elements of the Finance and Accounting department ranging from Payroll, A/P, Procurement and Internal Controls per industry standard. Continually evaluates departmental methodologies to ensure the highest levels of financial performance for all service lines, sites, and units. Brings best market practices that create a culture of high level of metric based performance that is efficient, cost effective and scalable to support the growth plans.
Implements, enhances and maintains the Finance department plan, and recommends changes to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Executive Committee (Exec) and CAO.
In conjunction with CAO and Exec, aid in the development and modification/restructuring of the respective departmental policies, procedures and processes to facilitate attaining the goals of the organization from financial performance, margin contribution, costs containment, and creating and living within budget perspective.
Directs the development and implementation of departmental procedures and controls to ensure their adequate execution, compliance, and updates; including the establishment and maintenance of internal controls and audits.
Evaluates general and specific practice conditions as they relate to departmental issues and advises the CEO and Exec via written / oral reports.
Participates in the identification of opportunities for the development of systems (both manual and automated) to properly support the Finance and Accounting, including but not limited to COA, Asset Control, Financial Reporting, Service Line P&L, and Management / Metrics reporting.
Ensures effective departmental financial information is readily available to the practice to populate Metric driven evaluation. Develop and maintain COA and other informatics systems to ensure ease of data extraction and availability in a flexible and industry standard methodology, using commercially available tools and techniques.
Oversees Finance Department operations, and guides Controller on issues related to workload/overtime, vacation requests, performance evaluations, employee development, and all other Finance department staffing issues.
Serves as a backup resource and mentor on financial, accounting, capital expense, procurement front to the departmental leaders. Enhances existing developmental plans and monitors programs for follow-up.
Provides first line, hands-on creation, maintenance, and reporting of various departmental deliverables reports, spreadsheets, and databases; where appropriate and as directed by Exec and CAO.
Produces annual budget for the organization, provides information to management related to monthly budget comparison, and identifies opportunities for cost containment. Supports and advices on Capital and Budgetary positions for each site, and service line by guiding and supporting their leaders on an annual basis.
Serve on the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and the Management Committee (MC) as the representative of Finance and Accounting and works closely with related departmental Directors through the ELT and MC.
Ensures the timely preparation and accuracy of all the financial reports, statement and associated narrative, for presentation to Executive Committee, and for monthly reports for Board of Directors of Epic Care.
Ensures the timely preparation and accuracy of the Physician Compensation Reports and Business Intelligence Reports for the practice and its Service Lines; and under direction of the Board, implement modifications as required in a timely and accurate fashion. Where appropriate, works directly on these deliverables to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
Oversees the areas of general ledger, accounts payable, non-medical accounts receivables, fixed assets tracking, banking and in conjunction with the Director of HR, the practice payroll and employee tracking systems.
As directed by the ELT, design and manage the effort to properly produce service line P&L statements, including revenue recognition and expense allocation.
Create Best Practices for Audits and Controls for the Finance & Accounting department. Design, Implement and Manage Procurement process for the organization where the stated goals of these functions are secured.
Masters level education in health care finance or a related field and/or suitable experience
5+ years’ in a senior level finance position, preferably in a large private practice environment
Familiarity with Oncology, Surgery, Internal Medicine and Primary Care a plus
