The University ofMaryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is seeking a Director of Finance to provide strategic direction and leadership for the control offinancial accounting operations through the development, enhancement andguidance of its various functions and staff members. The Director of Finance reviews,analyzes and interprets all financial and budgetary reports to ensure timelyand effective decision making by senior management. This position also collaborateswith upper level leadership and other directors within the School of Dentistryand throughout the campus in order to ensure the delivery of high qualityservice. This position has the authority to formulate, affect, interpret, orimplement management policies or operating practices.

Provide general direction and leadership for all aspects of the Finance departmental functions, including State Payroll and personnel transactional functions, in order to maintain their efficient operation.
Lead new shared service model, Financial Support Services (FSS), for the school's departmental finances. Provide general direction and leadership to FSS, with the Assistant Director of Finance for FSS as a direct report.
Lead efforts to expand shared services offered in the school's Financial Support Services model to enhance efficiencies in the school's business practices.
Managing the school's key performance indicators for its educational mission and clinical operations (UM FDSP).
Enhance and oversee school reporting, including, but not limited all metrics impacting the school's financial results, providing detailed financial reports to the Associate Dean for Finance and other senior leadership as needed. Provide dashboard level material for all levels of leadership within the school. Implementation of dashboard software to be utilized throughout the school for reporting of benchmark results on a timely basis.
Partner with upper level leadership and other directors on a regular basis in setting strategic goals/objectives and budgets, and/or in fostering improvements in policies/procedures for the entire department. Lead a long-range planning model carried out on an annual basis, which will be used to drive decisions for the upcoming budget cycle, and to plan for future resource needs.
Establish and maintain policies and procedures with regards to internal accounting controls and department budget and accounting and disbursement practices.
Maintain and nurture effective communication and partnerships throughout the campus by conferring with business units and campus leadership on issues pertaining to the promotion and understanding of the School of Dentistry's functions.
Proactively represent the School of Dentistry through participation in campus meetings and special projects, as well as UMB on an external basis with USM headquarters and other system-wide units.
Create a cohesive work team that works collaboratively to achieve unit's goals. Oversee the recruitment, performance, and training of team members and continually reviews strengths and weaknesses of staff to maintain a well-trained, highly involved, and motivated team.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degreein business, finance, accounting or a related field. Master's degree ispreferred.
Experience: Seven(7) years of financial accounting experience while progressively building abackground in various departmental functions.
Supervisory: Three(3) years of experience at a management/leadership level. Additional yearsof managerial/leadership experience are preferred.
