The Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) is a department within Harvard University's Financial Administration that is focused on providing high-quality administrative and financial assistance to faculty and other University affiliates performing sponsored research. OSP works with researchers across Harvard to help obtain and negotiate awards from sponsoring agencies, assist with grant proposal preparation, ensure compliance with federal regulations and University policies, provide financial support including financial reporting and billing and collection services, and promote knowledge of sponsored research administration throughout the University research community.
- Performs financial analysis of research portfolio for individual awards, by department and school, to summarize performance and trends and highlight potential issues - Analyzes data and provides metrics for team and clients - In support of the Portfolio Manager, takes ownership of school-level relationships, helping to resolve or escalate complex issues and work across units to resolve (in addition to excellent department-level relationship management) - Serves as a first point of contact and support to Financial Analysts in order to escalate complex compliance questions and advise on resolutions - Gathers data and applies policies and regulations to outline key issues and present potential solutions - Proactively educates departments on policies, processes, and best practices through daily interactions and training initiatives
Mentoring and Training
- Supervises day-to-day reporting and troubleshooting duties of staff, teaching them to resolve issues and use critical thinking to make decisions (which may be nuanced) - Provides mentoring and training to staff and other business partners (both internal and external to OSP) as needed regarding financial reporting, data warehouse, GMAS, and sponsored and University policies, with an emphasis on compliance and mitigating financial and institutional risk - Identifies training gaps, including internal processes, that can be addressed with Research Finance and other University trainings - Advises on direction of training initiatives for Financial Analysts and business partners regarding financial reporting, systems, and sponsored policies and procedures - Collaborates and models collaboration with colleagues in Pre-Award offices and other financial units and departments to ensure business continuity by building strong and constructive relationships

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel skill
Working knowledge of financial principles, budget management, financial analysis
Exposure to and experience with restricted fund environment strongly preferred
Extensive knowledge and fluency in governmental regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance, FAR)
Excellent business writing and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to resolve issues in a diplomatic manner and balance the juxtaposition of compliance and customer service
Independent problem resolution skills in a team environment
A sense of urgency and ownership
