General Summary: The Accounting & Finance Manager is responsible for providing the association with monthly profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and other key metrics financial reports. Reconcile and close the month-end financials for all checking accounts and investment statements. Work with IWLA’s chosen audit firm. Have the ability to handle high volume of financial data, and interpret the significance behind the numbers. This position is to consistently exercise discretion and judgment handling the association affairs.
Performs accounting transactions such as posting to registers and ledgers, account reconciliation, verifying accuracy of accounting documents and codes, and journal entries.
Works and communicates as requested with volunteers and members regarding the association financials.
Completes monthly financial reports within 5 business days of month end.
Effectively reconciles and audits the work.
Prepares and directs internal departments through the annual budget process, and formulates it for approval.
Processes accounts receivables & payables, and integrates the data into the accounting system (Great Plaines) twice a month.
Performs bank reconciliations for all association checking and investment accounts.
Issues payables weekly and uploads checks in Positive Pay through bank’s website.
Creates and maintains general ledger accounting codes in Great Plaines, MemberSuite and Management Reporter.
Generates invoices/collects past due invoices for the convention exhibitors, and other special assignments.
Submits monthly financial reports to departments as needed.
Assists with the yearly audit of the association.
Prepares annual budget.
Prepares the monthly financial forecast.
Prepares monthly journal entries based on depreciation schedules, accrued and deferred expense schedules, investment gains/losses.
Coordinates the filing of documents for IWLA – Political Action Committee.
Assists with the office functions as needed.
Prepares and mails 1099 Forms.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Ability to perform the essential functions of this position with consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
Fully in charge of accounting
Not-for-profit staff experience a plus.
Minimum of five years’ relevant experience in accounting.
Basic knowledge of office management.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office products.
Experience with database programs and accounting, MemberSuite, Great Plaines, and Management Report are a must.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
Flexibility to proactively plan, prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate and interact with various levels of management, members and service providers.
May be required to lift up to 25 pounds and carry it for up to 10 yards as part of packing materials for events, moving supplies to and from the storage locker and the supply center.
