The Sponsored Projects Accounting (SPA) department is a department within the Finance division that supports the university's research enterprise by managing the post-award administration functions, such as preparing and submitting all sponsor financial reporting, ensuring compliance with federal/sponsor requirements, interacting with University departments, developing, implementing, and enforcing University policies and procedures, and coordinating education outreach initiatives relative to post-award administration. SPA is also responsible for the effective cash flow and receivable management and respective analysis for internal/external reporting applicable to sponsored project activities.
Carnegie Mellon University's Sponsored Projects Accounting department is searching for a Sponsored Projects Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by leading a portfolio of sponsored awards, and taking actions to make decisions and resolve issues within the constraints established by federal, sponsor, or other institutional policies or regulations. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with acting independently and who has the aptitude and skills to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Core responsibilities will include:
Interpreting sponsor regulations and institutional policies and procedures
Following established departmental procedures and guidelines to maintain accurate financial records and transactions.
Serve as an information resource for campus community

BA/BS in Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience. Master's degree in a related field a plus.
At least one (1) year of experience working in a university business office and/or with post-award Federal and Non-Federal grants
Certified Research Administrator preferred
Advanced knowledge of major grant administration policies, Federal Regulations (specifically Uniform Guidance and FAR), National Science Foundation grant policies and other federal funding agencies (ONR, NASA, DOE, etc), Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and major foundations preferred
